“Walking Dead” S9 To Reset The Show

TV-Shows News

With the ratings slipping and fan complaints rising, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” looks set to course correct next season.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple spoke with EW this week and says this coming weekend’s season finale will wrap up not just this season’s arc but many of the story arcs from the past eight seasons.

Gimple is leaving with Angela Kang taking over as showrunner for next season, and as a result the ninth season will be something of a new beginning:

“I was there, and it was an intense vibe. It was a very hard season. And kind of everybody is in this episode. It was just intense. People were pretty to the limit this year emotionally. Also, this episode isn’t just like these 15 episodes coming to a conclusion, but Angela and myself and the writers had always talked about this in many ways being sort of the conclusion of the first eight seasons. This show will be very much a new show next year and with a bigger, new narrative.”

The season finale, entitled “Wrath,” airs on April 15th.
