Movie News

After the much complained about teaser trailer which led to people nicknaming it “Tom Hardy: The Movie,” the second trailer for Sony Pictures’ “Venom” film came out last week to a much stronger and slightly more upbeat response.

It was also wildly more popular. The Wrap reports that the new trailer amassed over 64.3 million views in its first 24 hours online and has effectively doubled that within a week. That first day figure is up by 72% over the teaser, and actually tops the “Wonder Woman” trailer’s numbers during its first day online.

Additionally, positive conversation” about the movie were up by 46%, while “negative conversation” went down 63%. Based on the enigmatic anti-hero who has often been a foil for Spider-Man, Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed co-star in the San Francisco-set story about a man who becomes exposed to an alien symbiote and bonds with it in the comics.

Ruben Fleischer helms the film which opens October 5th.
