Frequent British TV director James Hawes has come onboard the “Snowpiercer” TV series at TNT, serving as co-executive producer and director. Hawes’ first duty is to oversee reshoots on the show’s pilot.
Hawes’ hire comes just over a week after the pilot’s original director Scott Derrickson announced he would not return for the reshoots, citing new showrunner Graeme Manson’s ‘radically different vision’ for the series from that of original showrunner Josh Friedman who exited in January.
Derrickson at the time tweeted: “The 72-page Snowpiercer TV pilot script by @Josh_Friedman is the best I’ve ever read. The feature-length pilot I made from that script may be my best work. The new showrunner has a radically different vision for the show. I am forgoing my option to direct the extreme reshoots.”
The series takes place seven years after the world has become an icy wasteland. A small band of survivors inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand and Lena Hall star.
Hawes’ credits include episodes of “Black Mirror,” “Penny Dreadful,” “The Alienist,” “Doctor Who,” “The Mist,” “Genius” and “Merlin”.
