BBC Goes To Court Over “Doctor Who” Leak

TV-Shows News

The BBC is taking the mobile community Tapatalk to court following the leak of a minute of footage and two photos from the upcoming eleventh season of “Doctor Who”.

The footage offered the first glimpse of Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor following her appearance at the end of last year’s Christmas special when Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor regenerated.

The new season marks a complete overhaul of the show with a new showrunner, new production crew, new writers, new cast, new composer, new visual effects team and more. As a result, any and all material from it has been on a tight lockdown with no clips or images released to date beyond the official announcement photos of Whittaker’s casting.

The broadcaster is requesting that a clerk at the California federal court issue a subpoena to Tapatalk as the BBC is less interested in taking down the service and more in discovering the identity of the person or persons who leaked the footage as well as dissuade potential leakers from acting in the future.

A panel for the series is taking place at San Diego Comic Con in two weeks with Whittaker in attendance. A first look trailer is expected to take place at the event which will hopefully then go officially online. The new season will premiere sometime this Fall, but no specific air date is locked.
