Affleck Circles “Has-Been” & Out Of “Batman”?

Movie News

The duo behind the cult hit “The Accountant,” actor Ben Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor, look to be re-teaming. The pair are reportedly circling Brad Ingelsby’s drama script “The Has-Been” which will likely be setup at Warner Bros. Pictures – but no deals have been completed at this point.

The story follows a former basketball all-star (Affleck) who has lost his wife and family foundation in a struggle with addiction. He attempts to regain his soul and salvation by becoming the coach of a disparate, ethnically mixed high school basketball team at his alma mater.

Affleck, O’Connor, Jennifer Todd, Mark Ciardi and Gordon Grey will all produce. Affleck and O’Connor are also developing an ‘Accountant’ follow-up.

The news comes as a report on THR about the recent departures of Diane Nelson and Geoff Johns from Warners’ DC division touches upon Affleck’s reprising his Batman role from the likes of “Batman v Superman” and “Justice League”.

The report claims that film director Matt Reeves turned in the first act of a new screenplay during the Memorial Day weekend. That script is said to focus on a young caped crusader and reboots Batman as a ‘standalone franchise’. The studio would not comment, but it seems increasingly unlikely Affleck is coming back to the role.
